KMUW’s Signal Expansion Project requires more than just one radio transmitter. In fact, it requires three: (1) our new Harris HT35 analog transmitter delivers the same signal you are used to hearing at 89.1FM but with a lower power requirement (2) our old Harris FM35K analog transmitter will now function as a back up during emergencies and preventative maintenance of the new transmitter and (3) our new Harris Z16 digital transmitter will work with the analog transmitter to generate our HD Radio™ broadcasts.
The transmitters and all the required support equipment need to be housed in a controlled climate and that is where Agriboard comes into the picture. We wanted our new transmitter building to be strong, secure and energy efficient so we chose Agriboard as the primary building material for our new transmitter building.
Agriboard is a ”green“ product made from compressed wheat straw and provides superb insulating properties (R-25.4) and is seven times more effective at controlling air loss than stick framing due to the engineered panel structure. Our tight, well insulated transmitter building will reduce our reliance on expensive heating and cooling systems.
Agriboard is also amazingly secure. The Agriboard Fire+Storm panel passes F5 tornado criteria plus 2 ½ hour fire rating. Low emission is another important feature. (Agriboard uses no adhesive binders.) Finally, Agriboard uses safe and effective borax compounds to prevent mold and insects.
Agriboard supplies a “green” building material that can withstand an F5 tornado with a 2 ½ hour fire rating that resists mold and insects while providing an extremely tight structure with superior insulating characteristics. Why wouldn’t we choose Agriboard?
